ISLAMABAD: Field Marshal Asim Munir held a ‘positive and productive’ meeting with the Iranian president, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said, with discussions focusing on the Iran-US conflict, escalating tensions in the Middle East and possible ways forward.

In a post on X, Mohsin Naqvi said the two sides also discussed measures required by the parties for the restoration of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The Iranian president openly shared his government’s position and concerns during the meeting, the interior minister said.

Naqvi described the talks as a significant development, saying that important progress was made and the meeting concluded on a highly positive note.

He expressed hope that the momentum generated by the talks would lead to further progress in the region and help pave the way for lasting peace.

The interior minister shared the remarks in a post on social media, highlighting the meeting as a positive step amid heightened tensions in the Middle East.

Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, along with Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi concluded a day-long visit to Iran.

The visit was part of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to end the stalemate in the ongoing US-Iran conflict and explore ways for achieving enduring peace and permanent end to instability in the region.

During the visit, the Field Marshal called on Iranian President, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, Representative of the Supreme Leader on the Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, Speaker of the Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, and Minister of Interior Eskandar Momeni.

Comprehensive discussions focused on measures to prevent further escalation, reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and expedited termination of the conflict.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional peace and the ways to arrive at a negotiated settlement to the disputes.

The Iranian leadership appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role and sincere efforts towards facilitating dialogue, de-escalation and a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
