KARACHI, August 28, 2026: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK-784, travelling from Toronto to Karachi, returned to Toronto airport after a fire alarm warning was received in the aircraft’s cargo area, ARY News reported.
According to a PIA spokesperson, the captain contacted the air traffic control tower after the fire alarm warning was received in the cargo area.
The captain requested permission for an emergency landing due to the fire alarm warning. After receiving permission, the flight returned and landed at Toronto airport.
The PIA engineering team is inspecting the aircraft, while fire brigade personnel are also checking the aircraft’s cargo hold, the spokesperson said.
Under standard operating procedures (SOPs), all 130 passengers were shifted from the aircraft to the lounge, according to PIA.
A similar incident occurred on August 19, when a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight en route to Medina from Islamabad made an emergency landing at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi after developing a technical fault.
Flight PK-713 was travelling from Islamabad to Medina when the technical issue was detected while the aircraft was in UAE airspace. The captain decided to divert the flight back to Karachi as a precaution, according to the PIA spokesperson.
The Boeing 777 had more than 300 passengers on board, excluding the crew.
The aircraft had been in the air for more than three hours before the technical fault developed. The captain subsequently turned the aircraft around and returned to Karachi.
The aircraft landed safely at Jinnah International Airport, after which the passengers were shifted to the transit lounge.
