ISLAMABAD, September 7, 2026: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that the Sindh Assembly has taken its position on the issue of new provinces, but any decision taken in this regard will have to be implemented, ARY News reported.

Speaking about the proposal for creating new provinces, Khawaja Asif said the move would help provide better services to the people. He said that if a decision is made to create new provinces, the interests of no political party would be protected.

The defence minister said even Afghanistan, despite being a weak country, had created more than 30 provinces. He said the creation of new provinces would help transfer powers and resources to the grassroots level.

Khawaja Asif said the word “provinces” might itself be an issue and suggested that the term “administrative units” could be used instead. He said whatever decision is taken would be in the public interest.

A few days ago, the Sindh Assembly had unanimously passed a resolution against the division of Sindh, presented by Pakistan Peoples Party leader Nisar Khuhro.

All members present in the assembly supported the resolution, with Speaker Syed Owais Qadir Shah announcing its unanimous approval.

During the session, PPP members held banners carrying the slogan “Sindh is the motherland.”
