Pakistan and Japan have signed a grant agreement worth 2.58 billion Japanese yen (approximately US$16.4 million) to strengthen flood protection infrastructure along the Indus River in Sindh province.
The project will focus on improving and strengthening the Old Abad Bund in the Larkana area, on the right bank of the Indus River.
The Grant Agreement (G/A) was signed by Ms. Sabina Qureshi, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Economic Affairs, and Mr. Sugawara Takayuki, Senior Representative, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Pakistan.
The Secretary, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Muhammad Humair Karim Kidwai, expressed appreciation to the Government and the people of Japan for their continued friendship, generous development assistance and steadfast commitment to Pakistan’s socio-economic development.
He also praised JICA’s technical expertise and its longstanding engagement in Pakistan.
AKAMATSU Shuichi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, assured the commitment of his government to work closely with the Government of Pakistan to further strengthen the friendly ties and bilateral cooperation.
Sugawara Takayuki, Senior Representative, JICA, appreciated the government of Sindh and the government of Pakistan for brining project to a signing stage and indicated JICA’s commitment towards strengthening flood protection infrastructure in flood-prone areas of Sindh.
