KARACHI: A smart parking system has been launched in Karachi as part of efforts to eliminate illegal parking and provide motorists with a more organised and convenient parking facility.
Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated the city’s first smart parking system at the Beach View Parking facility in Clifton, near Dolmen Mall.
The mayor said the initiative would provide citizens with a modern and better-organised parking service while also improving transparency and convenience.
The first digitised mechanical parking facility has been established near Dolmen Mall. Under the system, motorists receive a ticket upon entering the parking facility by pressing a button. The ticket is then submitted when they leave, with the parking fee calculated accordingly.
Citizens welcomed the launch and praised the mayor’s initiative, saying the system would improve transparency and service delivery.
“Transparency will improve, services will be better, and everything will be clear to the public,” one citizen said.
Another citizen said the initiative would help curb the so-called “ticket mafia” and ensure that the revenue generated from parking is properly collected and utilised for Karachi.

Authorities plan to introduce smart parking systems at 10 more locations across the city to eliminate illegal parking and improve the traffic management system.
The launch marks Karachi’s first smart digital parking facility and is being seen as a major step towards replacing informal parking arrangements with a transparent and technology-driven system.
