ISLAMABAD: A newborn who had survived the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) fire incident has died, ARY News reported on Thursday, citing hospital sources.
The newborn had been receiving treatment at the PIMS Children’s Hospital and was on a ventilator after being rescued from the deadly fire that claimed lives of 14 infants.
The infant died late last night while undergoing treatment at the hospital, they added.
Nurse Razia had reportedly managed to rescue the newborn alive from the nursery following the incident.
Earlier, nurse Razia Noreen received widespread recognition for her extraordinary courage during a recent fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), after she risked her own life to rescue a newborn from a burning room.
In an interview published by The Washington Post, Razia Noreen entered the fire-hit room with the sole objective of saving the babies and managed to bring a newborn to safety in just eight seconds.
Speaking to The Washington Post, Noreen said that when she entered the burning room, she was not thinking about her own safety. Her only concern was to save the children trapped inside.

“I did not think about becoming a hero; I simply performed my duty as a nurse and as a mother,” she said, according to the report.
Razia Noreen said her sole objective while entering the smoke-filled, burning room was to ensure that the babies survived the incident. Her decision to put herself at risk has since drawn praise from people across different sections of Pakistani society.
Her courage was applauded by members of both Muslim and Christian communities, as well as people from various other segments of society, highlighting the widespread appreciation for her actions.
The nurse’s actions have drawn widespread appreciation across Pakistan, with her bravery being described as an example of exceptional courage and dedication to duty. The report said she is being hailed as a national hero for her actions during the emergency.
The Government of Pakistan also announced that Noreen would be honoured with the Sitara-i-Khidmat and a financial reward in recognition of her bravery and service.
