LAHORE: Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have reduced their demand for imported wheat by a combined 200,000 tonnes, taking a U-turn on their earlier import requirements, ARY News reported.
According to sources, both provincial governments have reduced their demand for wheat imports through the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) by 200,000 tonnes.
Punjab has cut its demand for imported wheat by 100,000 tonnes from the earlier requirement of 250,000 tonnes, bringing it down to 150,000 tonnes.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has also reduced its demand by 100,000 tonnes from the earlier requirement of 200,000 tonnes, bringing its demand down to 100,000 tonnes.
Meanwhile, the Sindh government has decided to maintain its demand for 300,000 tonnes of imported wheat.
Sources said the provincial governments reduced their demand due to concerns over the disposal of imported wheat stocks.
Three companies agree to lowest wheat import bid
In the TCP wheat import tenders, three companies have agreed to import wheat at the lowest price offered in the tender.
According to sources, the three major companies agreed to the lowest bid of $348.63 per tonne.
LDC increased its offer for wheat imports from 110,000 tonnes to 250,000 tonnes.
Agro Crop also increased its offer from 55,000 tonnes to 250,000 tonnes.
