In his first television interview since a judge declared a mistrial in the high-profile murder case against his former wife, Lindsay Clancy, Patrick Clancy discussed the deaths of his three children.
In an interview with CBS News’ 60 Minutes, Patrick managed to defend his ex-wife against the vilification, blaming the tragedy squarely on serious mental health issues and calling for more understanding of maternal mental health.
A Massachusetts mother, Lindsay Clancy, 32, who is facing murder charges for strangling her 3 children, Cora, 5, 2-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan in January of 2023, was unable to secure a conviction, leading to her case being declared a mistrial on 4 September 2026.
11 of the 12 jurors felt Lindsay was not guilty of the offence, and found her suffering with postpartum psychosis at the time of the alleged offence.
One juror held that Lindsay knew what she was doing, resulting in a hung jury.
Subsequently, the foreperson of the jury claimed that the holdout juror had reasonable doubt but still wanted to convict – a claim the juror’s attorney vehemently denied.
Patrick Clancy’s Account and Remarks
Patrick recalled the tragic story of the death of his youngest son, Callan, who was alive four days after the incident and died in Patrick’s arms. As Patrick was holding his son in his final moments, he was writing out tributes to his children and forgiving Lindsay.
Confronting the cruel public backlash and the media coverage, Patrick noted:
He dismissed labels such as “killer mom” and “monster,” claiming they never fit his former wife’s mind.
Patrick emphasized that bashing Lindsay takes away from the most important issue-perinatal mental health and the memory of Lindsay’s children.
He denied internet conspiracy claims implicating him in the tragedy.
On whether he carried personal guilt or responsibility: I have carried it ever since. Did the best I could at the time, but I still must live with the results.
