Google is no longer treating laptops as an afterthought to Android and ChromeOS. The new Google Book, a premium laptop line, arrives in the US on October 4 with five launch models, a refreshed Material 3 Expressive interface, and Gemini built directly into the operating system instead of as a separate app.
The Googlebook desktop looks a lot like the Pixel phone, with Quick Settings and notifications in the top-right, time and date on the left, and a dock in the center featuring the familiar “G” app drawer icon.
When you sign in to a Googlebook, it automatically brings over your Android phone’s settings, saved passwords, Wi-Fi networks, and messages. Android 17’s “Continue On” feature and Cast My Apps make it easy to use your apps across devices, even if you don’t want to install them locally.
Gemini Intelligence works with a special pointer and a simple wiggle gesture that calls up the assistant for tasks like adding dates straight to your calendar.
Google has created a native Antigravity app for Google Books that gives full access to a Linux environment. Developers can also install Claude Code or OpenAI’s Codex directly.
A Level 5 security-certified hypervisor with pKVM isolation keeps the Linux environment safely sandboxed, but still lets you use the full terminal.
