Under the Makkah agreement, an attack on one of the three parties, including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye, is to be considered an attack on all three, according to Pakistan’s Foreign Office.
According to the foreign office spokesperson, the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, and Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan have met in New York to review progress under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.
The meeting focused on preparations for establishing the agreement’s general secretariat, committees and working groups, as well as steps to begin their operations, the foreign office said.
The three ministers strongly condemned attacks on civilian and economic infrastructure in Saudi Arabia. They praised the readiness of Saudi forces and its ability to defend itself.
They also reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s right to take measures in self-defence under Article 51 of the United Nations (UN) Charter.
The ministers discussed plans to convene an important meeting of the three countries’ chiefs of staff.
The meeting of chiefs of staff is expected to consider ways of supporting Saudi Arabia under the framework of the joint defence agreement.

The ministers also discussed the wider regional situation and stressed the importance of international law, respect for state sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of states.
They highlighted the need to ensure the security and freedom of maritime navigation and reaffirmed their commitment to working together for lasting peace and stability in the region.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye also reiterated their support for de-escalation and the peaceful resolution of regional crises.
