ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Test team captain Babar Azam has come under attention after a video surfaced on social media showing him throwing away a fan’s phone during an attempted selfie.
According to the viral video, a fan entered the field to take a selfie with Babar Azam. The cricketer can be seen taking the fan’s phone and throwing it away.
The video also shows two children who were approaching Babar for pictures turning back and leaving the field after seeing his reaction.
Meanwhile, Babar Azam’s poor form has continued in domestic cricket.
The batter failed in his third consecutive innings of the President’s Trophy and was dismissed for 21 runs in the first innings of the fourth round.
Babar was given a reprieve when his catch was dropped at 12, but he could not capitalise on the opportunity.
After returning to domestic cricket following seven years, Babar Azam has scored only 37 runs in three innings.
Meanwhile, former Pakistan chief selector, Mohammad Wasim, compared the Pakistan women’s team captain, Fatima Sana, with their star batter Babar Azam.
During a sports talk show on a Pakistani channel, Wasim rated Sana above Babar Azam in terms of playing under pressure and taking ownership of the situation when it’s tough out on the field.
Wasim described the young women’s captain as brave in terms of leadership, her temperament and all-round performance, especially under high pressure at the international stage.
“Fatima is someone who shows complete calm under extreme pressure and takes the wickets or scores runs needed at critical moments,” said the icon.
“While we have world-class technical abilities in the shape of Babar, but he struggles in finishing games or rescuing the team from difficult situations when the pressure is at its peak.”
The talk has stirred up a lot of excitement among cricket fans and analysts, and earned Pakistan women’s cricket additional attention to have taken off in such a short period.
