LAHORE: An Azerbaijani woman who was subjected to a gang rape was sent back to her home country of Azerbaijan on Sunday, accompanied by three police officers, ARY News reported.

The 22-year-old, identified as Diana, departed for the Azerbaijani capital of Baku aboard flight PK 159.

A female Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) from Defence, along with two other police officers, supervised her boarding at the airport.

All three police officers traveled with her to Baku.

Following a request from her embassy, police officers were assigned to accompany her. The escort team included ASP Barera, DSP Qamar Abbas, and a female police officer.

Yesterday, three suspects arrested in connection with the gang rape of an Azerbaijani national confessed to their crime during police interrogation.

The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Investigation informed that one remaining suspect is still at large and will be arrested soon.

The DIG Investigation stated that police traced and apprehended the three suspects through human intelligence and modern technological assistance.

Detailing the heinous crime, the DIG said that a gang-rape case was registered at the Defence C Police Station against unidentified perpetrators. The culprits allegedly raped the foreign national after taking her to a flat in a private housing society.

After committing the crime, they drove around with her in a vehicle along the Ring Road before dropping her off near the Defence Phase 8 Interchange. The perpetrators also fled with the victim’s mobile phone and purse.

The DIG noted that police swung into action following a complaint lodged by a passerby on the 15 emergency helpline, after which special police teams were formed to arrest the culprits.

The DIG Investigation added that he personally supervised the investigation and confirmed that a medical examination of the victim was conducted, which corroborated the rape.

He further stated that medical swabs from both the victim and the suspects have been sent to the forensic laboratory. Expressing firm resolve, the DIG vowed that the case would be brought to its logical conclusion.

Meanwhile, sources revealed that the Azerbaijani woman, Diana, was boarded onto a flight back to her home country, Azerbaijan, but she refused to leave Pakistan.

Sources added that although airline staff and relevant authorities attempted to persuade her to board the flight, she remained firm on her decision to stay in Pakistan.

Consequently, she was offloaded from the plane and shifted to the international briefing hall at Lahore Airport.”I do not want to leave Pakistan of my own free will,” she stated.
