The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) has warned the government against imposing emergency or governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), describing both measures as undesirable and dangerous.
Speaking on ARY News program ‘Sawal Yeh Hai’, JUI-F spokesperson Aslam Ghauri said a government delegation had assured Maulana Fazlur Rehman during a meeting that neither emergency nor governor’s rule would be imposed.
“We also made it clear that we consider emergency and governor’s rule undesirable and dangerous,” Ghauri said.
“If the government intends to take such measures, why has it called us for talks?” he added, reiterating the party’s opposition to both options.
Ghauri warned that imposing governor’s rule in one province could have consequences for the federal government as well.
“Nothing should be done that could dismantle the democratic system,” he said, urging politicians to avoid undermining the system on which their own political future depends.
The JUI-F spokesperson also criticized the role of the KP governor, describing it as highly negative.
Questioning the possibility of imposing governor’s rule in other provinces, Ghauri pointed to the situation in Balochistan, Karachi and interior Sindh.
“If this begins in KP, conditions in Balochistan are even worse. Will governor’s rule be imposed there as well?” he asked.
Referring to the situation in Karachi and other parts of Sindh, Ghauri questioned how widely such measures could be extended.
