Disney explores Star Wars Battlefront 3 development with Bungie

Star Wars Battlefront

Fans have been waiting for a sequel to Star Wars Battlefront II since 2017, and now there are signs of progress. US gaming magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM) reports that Disney is very interested in a third game and is already searching for a development studio.

Two well-known studios are in the running: EA DICE and Bungie. This information comes from the “Quartermann” rumor column in EGM issue 265, published on October 9. Gaming journalist Jeff Grubb talked about this on his Game Mess Mornings podcast on October 19. At 22:42 in the episode, Grubb reads the Battlefront report.

Most fans probably expected DICE to be considered, since the Swedish studio made Star Wars Battlefront (2015) and Battlefront II (2017). Bungie is a more surprising option. Known for Halo and Destiny, Bungie is now owned by Sony and has mostly worked on its own games lately. Taking on an EA series would be a new direction for them.

Because of Bungie’s financial struggles, Jeff Grubb thinks it is possible the studio could get involved. Sony recently took big losses on Bungie and announced major layoffs in June 2026. Working on a well-known franchise like Star Wars could give Bungie new opportunities. Still, Grubb believes DICE is more likely to be chosen.

News about Battlefront 3 has excited fans on Reddit, but the two possible developers are getting mixed reactions. Reports say both Bungie and DICE have lost many experienced staff in recent years and have changed a lot. However, Bungie still gets praise for the great gunplay in the Destiny games.

Some fans would love to see a Battlefront game with shooting mechanics as satisfying as Destiny’s. It is still unclear if or when Star Wars Battlefront 3 will happen. EGM says that so far, neither studio has officially agreed to make the game.
