Senator seeks debate on police encounters killing suspects

Senate

A call for a Senate debate on the killing of arrested suspects in police encounters has been submitted by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Senator Kamran Murtaza.

In the calling attention notice, Murtaza cited the Laiba suicide case and an incident in Bahawalpur, saying suspects in both cases had been killed in police encounters.

He said the deaths of suspects in police custody during police encounters were clear evidence of administrative weakness.

The notice also highlighted alleged corruption and mismanagement within the police force, as well as a lack of public trust in the department.

It called on the Senate to debate police reforms and the killing of suspects in police encounters.
