RAWALPINDI: Six terrorists were killed and two Pakistan Army soldiers were martyred during an intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Sunday.

According to a statement issued by the military’s media wing, security forces conducted the operation in the Zarkani area of Dera Ismail Khan following reports of the presence of Fitna al-Khawarij.

The ISPR said security forces effectively targeted a hideout of Indian-sponsored terrorists, killing six khawarij during the operation.

During an intense exchange of fire, Naik Ghulam Murtaza, 36, from Gujrat, and Sepoy Taseer Ahmed, 30, from Talagang, fought bravely and embraced martyrdom, the statement said.

Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the slain terrorists, according to the ISPR.

The military’s media wing said the killed terrorists had been involved in multiple terrorist activities against security forces and law enforcement agencies, as well as the killing of innocent civilians.

A sanitisation operation is underway in the area to eliminate any remaining khawarij, the statement added.

The ISPR said security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue their counterterrorism campaign under the vision of Azm-e-Istehkam to eliminate foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.

The sacrifices of the soldiers, it added, further strengthen the nation’s unwavering resolve to eradicate terrorism.
