Anthropic removes restrictive hourly limits for verified Claude Ultra tier subscribers

Anthropic changed the names of its two top Claude subscriptions on October 30. Max 5x is now called Max, and Max 20x is now Ultra. The company said on X, “Max is still $100/month, and Ultra is still $200.” If you already subscribe, you don’t need to take any action—your plan will update to the new name automatically.

The main change is to the usage limit; previously, Claude plans used a rolling five-hour window, so if you used up your time, you had to wait for it to reset. Now, verified Ultra accounts don’t have this limit. You can use Claude all day without stopping partway through. Anthropic says this update is now active for most current subscribers.

The total usage amount hasn’t changed: Ultra still offers 10 times Pro’s weekly usage. Fable, Anthropic’s top model, has a separate weekly limit, according to the Claude Help Center. If you use up your weekly allowance in just a couple of days, you’ll have to wait for the weekly reset.

You don’t need to fill out any forms. Anthropic automatically verifies Ultra accounts using your account and payment history to help prevent fraud. New accounts have a temporary limit until they’re verified. The help page clearly says, “verifying your phone number at checkout is a separate step and doesn’t remove this limit.” To check whether you’re verified, go to Settings, then Usage. If you don’t see a Current session bar, your account is verified.

For most users, the Pro plan at $20 a month is still enough. It includes Opus 5.5 at no extra cost. As mentioned earlier, Fable isn’t included in Pro, and Pro users can only use it by paying with usage credits.

Both Max and Ultra include Fable for up to half the weekly limit. Since October, they’ve also included monthly API credits: $100 for Max and $200 for Ultra. Ultra is available only as a monthly subscription. The $200 price applies to web subscriptions; mobile app prices may differ.
