As many as 1,150 rural women have completed vocational training and secured jobs under the Punjab government’s ‘She Thread’ program, which aims to equip women with market-oriented skills and expand employment opportunities in the textile sector.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has set a target of training 2,500 rural women by June 2027.

The program provides participants with a monthly stipend of Rs.15,000 during the training period.

The Women Development Department has begun registering women from rural areas of Lahore for the initiative.

Training is being held at Shahkam Industries on Multan Road, where participants are taught to work as industrial sewing machine operators and apparel supervisors.

The three-month course combines classroom lessons with practical training designed to meet the requirements of the textile industry.

Women aged between 18 and 45 are eligible to apply, provided they hold a Punjab domicile and have at least a matriculation qualification.

Applicants can register at Shahkam Industries by submitting their national identity cards and domicile certificates.

Selected candidates must also provide an affidavit before admission, following verification of their eligibility.

Further information about registration and eligibility is available through assistant commissioners, union council secretaries and relevant district offices.

The Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, said the initiative was intended to provide rural women with industry-relevant skills and help them earn a sustainable livelihood.

She said the program would not only prepare women for jobs in the textile sector but also facilitate employment opportunities after they completed their training.
