Founding chairman tells PTI leader in Jail meeting: Sources

ISLAMABAD: Details have surfaced regarding a meeting between Salman Safdar and incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, ARY News reported, citing sources.

According to PTI sources, senior party leaders exchanged views following the meeting between the party’s secretary-general, legal team, the founding chairman, and his wife.

Sources revealed that Imran Khan expressed no grief over the loss of his party’s government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

A PTI leader stated that the founding chairman viewed the KP government as a burden due to persistent complaints regarding its performance.

“The person who dethroned our government in KP actually did me a favor,” Imran Khan was quoted as saying.

Preliminary discussions regarding the proposed 28th Constitutional Amendment were held with Imran Khan prior to his formal meeting with counsel Salman Safdar.

Sources added that two more meetings with the founding chairman are expected soon, during which the party’s future political strategy will be finalized.

PTI founder Imran Khan’s meeting with Barrister Salman Safdar lasted for about 40 minutes and marked a significant update following a months-long gap in restricted access to the jailed leader.

Imran Khan has been continuously incarcerated since August 5, 2023, following his initial arrest in Lahore after a conviction in the Toshakhana corruption case. As of late 2026, he has spent over three years behind bars across multiple sentences and pending trial proceedings related to several political and state cases.

Following the announcement and mobilization of the PTI long march demanding Imran Khan’s release, the central authorities escalated security measures and political action against the provincial administration. A state of emergency was declared in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), leading to the suspension of the PTI-led provincial government and the imposition of federal control over the region amid clashes and legal action against key provincial party leaders.
