ISLAMABAD: The federal government has approved the deployment of the Pakistan Army in Rawalpindi following a request from the Punjab government.
The Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control issued a notification in this regard, stating that the deployment has been authorized under Article 245 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
According to the notification, the decision was taken following a request from the Home Department, Government of Punjab, through a letter dated July 22, 2026.
The federal government has authorized the deployment of three companies of the Pakistan Army for sensitive security duties to prevent any undesirable situation and to respond effectively to any unforeseen circumstances, as required by the district administration.
The deployment will take effect immediately and will remain in place for six months.
The Army will assist the Rawalpindi district administration in maintaining law and order and strengthening security arrangements at sensitive locations and key routes.

The notification further stated that the deployment is intended to enable the authorities to respond effectively to any untoward situation and provide assistance to the district administration whenever required.
