A new spell of rain, strong winds and thunderstorms is expected to begin in parts of Pakistan from today after a western weather system entered the country.
The Meteorological Department predicted that the rain spell is likely to continue until 6 September 2026, with widespread rain forecast in parts of upper Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Kashmir and areas around the upper river areas.
Rain is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and surrounding areas, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. Some areas could also see torrential rain.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain and thunderstorms are forecast in areas including Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Battagram, Peshawar, Nowshera, Abbottabad and Mansehra.
Several parts of upper Punjab, including Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock, Sialkot and Gujrat, are also likely to experience rain and strong winds.
The weather department also forecast rain in Murree, the Galiyat region, Kashmir and upper parts of Gilgit-Baltistan. The rainfall is expected to bring down temperatures and make the weather more pleasant.
Rain has already been reported in parts of the Potohar region, Islamabad, KP and Azad Kashmir. Several areas of Islamabad have received rain accompanied by strong winds.
The MD said the rainfall between 31 August and 6 September 2026 could lead to a moderate increase in water flows in rivers, streams and other waterways.
Most parts of Sindh and Balochistan are expected to remain hot and humid, although the skies may remain partly cloudy in coastal areas.
Authorities have also advised residents and travelers in mountainous areas to remain cautious, as prolonged rainfall could increase the risk of landslides.
