Many users worldwide are unable to access major AI chatbots this morning due to widespread outages affecting services including OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, Google’s Gemini, and X’s Grok.
The disruptions were first reported by Downdetector, which monitors online service outages.
It’s still unclear what caused the outage, but other major platforms are also having problems. Cloudflare, which supports much of the internet, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) are both dealing with technical issues.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Cloudflare’s service status page shows two ongoing issues that might be related to the outages, but both were first reported several days ago. So far, Cloudflare hasn’t posted any new updates on its social media.
For its part, OpenAI is showing “elevated errors across ChatGPT and Codex” on its status page.
Anthropic initially showed errors for most of its models, but now says they’re limited to Opus 4.8 and Opus 5.
Grok is still facing widespread outages. According to Downdetector data at 11:56 a.m. ET, reports of problems with OpenAI have dropped a lot, but there are still many outage reports for Claude, Grok, and Gemini.
