Nintendo removed the Switch 2 ban nearly a day after error 2124-4508 was reported. Beebom reported that Nintendo appeared to have reversed the bans that had left players around the world unable to use their consoles.
The error began spreading on Saturday, prompting Nintendo to ban the Switch 2.
By Monday morning, September 7, owners in several countries confirmed they could use the Switch 2 again.
On the evening of September 6, Nintendo Switch 2 users posted on Reddit that their consoles were “suddenly banned.”
Users reported seeing error code 2124-4508 along with a message stating, “The use of online services on this console is currently restricted by Nintendo.”
A user remarked, “I was just gaming when I unexpectedly got banned. I usually purchase official games and have never engaged in piracy, and my console is new and authentic.”
“I bought a new Switch 2 and only used new physical games. I’m waiting for Nintendo support’s response to this unexpected ban,” another Reddit user added.
A Japanese user stated, “I had no pre-owned cartridges, yet support claimed illegal software caused the ban.”
The affected users are from Europe, America, and Asia, suggesting that the wave of bans was much larger than initially thought.
Many Reddit users said their consoles were unbanned after the wave that had stopped them from using Nintendo Switch Online, the eShop, and other features.
According to ITHome and Notebookcheck, Nintendo’s support team said the problem was a temporary system fault caused by a “server error,” and assured users it was not a privacy crackdown.
At the same time, some players who were regaining access said the issue did not appear to be caused by a server error.
This was not the first time Nintendo had issued widespread bans on Switch 2 consoles. In June 2025, Nintendo banned users who used the MIG Switch flash cart, which let them load backups of Nintendo Switch games and play them on the console.
However, that ban targeted users who used illegal methods to play games.
