ISLAMABAD: PML-N President Nawaz Sharif has nominated Dr Muhammad Najeeb Naqi as the party’s candidate for the office of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) president.
According to ARY News, Dr Muhammad Najeeb Naqi thanked Nawaz Sharif for nominating him for the position.
He said the nomination was not just Nawaz Sharif’s trust in him but also a show of confidence in the entire region.
Dr Muhammad Najeeb Naqi said the nomination for the AJK president’s office was an expression of trust. He added that reducing public difficulties would be their first priority in difficult circumstances.
He said they would make every effort to reduce the problems faced by the people, while a decision regarding the political successor would be taken at the appropriate time.
Following Dr Muhammad Najeeb Naqi’s nomination, political leaders and party workers have continued to arrive at Kashmir House in Muzaffarabad to congratulate him on being named the candidate.
Earlier, the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elected Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Iftikhar Gillani as the new prime minister.
Gillani secured 30 of the 44 votes cast in the House, defeating Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Sardar Mukhtar Ahmad Khan Abbasi, who received 14 votes.
PML-N lawmaker Shah Ghulam Qadir was absent from the Assembly and did not participate in the voting.
