ISLAMABAD: Electricity prices may increase by Rs1.73 per unit under the monthly fuel adjustment for August, ARY News reported.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has filed an application seeking an increase of Rs1.73 per unit in electricity prices.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will hear the CPPA’s request on September 29.
If approved, the proposed increase will place an additional burden of Rs29.5 billion on electricity consumers.
The proposed adjustment will also apply to K-Electric consumers.
According to the CPPA, 14.464 billion units of electricity were supplied to distribution companies (DISCOs) in August.
The cost of electricity supplied to DISCOs stood at Rs8.82 per unit during the month.
The CPPA said 37.84 percent of electricity generated in August came from hydropower.
Local coal accounted for 10.88 percent of power generation, while 15.59 percent was generated using imported coal.
Around 2.15 percent of electricity was generated from furnace oil, while local gas accounted for 7.04 percent and imported LNG for 8.48 percent of power generation.
The CPPA has sought the proposed adjustment based on the electricity generation and fuel costs recorded in August.
