KARACHI: Goods transporters have demanded release of containers and other vehicles retained by the police in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
President Goods Transport Ittehad, Malik Shahzad Awan, apprehended that the medicines and edible items in the containers could be expired and degraded
He said the federal and Punjab governments should release all containers and other vehicles immediately.
He said the vehicles not being released despite the orders from Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

He said the federal and Punjab governments will be responsible in case of losses to transporters and goods. “The federal government should look to alternate arrangements to stop the protest instead of taking hostage to the economy”.
Shahzad Awan said that the goods transport has been the backbone, it should not be used in political matters.
“Our vehicles are not to block the roads but to run the national economy,” he added.
In an earlier statement transporters leader said that around 700 containers have been retained by Islamabad and Punjab Police. “There are crores of rupees goods in 700 containers,” he said. “The detained cargo included edible items as well as material for key industries.”
