RAWALPINDI: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces (COAS & CDF), visited Corps Headquarters Peshawar, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Tuesday.
According to the military’s media wing, Field Marshal Asim Munir was briefed on the prevailing security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ongoing counter-terrorism operations, border management measures and the operational preparedness of formations deployed in the province.
Asim Munir commended the high morale, readiness and professionalism of officers and troops, acknowledging their steadfast commitment to safeguarding the country and its people.
He directed formations to remain vigilant and uphold the highest standards of operational preparedness.
The field marshal emphasised that the armed forces, with the unwavering support of the nation, remain resolute in their determination to defeat terrorism and ensure lasting peace and stability across the country.
He also laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada and offered Fateha, paying rich tribute to those who laid down their lives in defence of the motherland and in the fight against terrorism. He reaffirmed that their supreme sacrifices would never be forgotten.
Upon arrival, the COAS & CDF was received by the Commander Peshawar Corps.
8 terrorists killed, 6 security personnel martyred in Hangu operation: ISPR
Earlier, on September 20, eight terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire between security forces and militants in Hangu, the ISPR said.
According to the ISPR, on 20 September 2026, fire exchange took place between the Security Forces convoy and Khwarij in Hangu District. Resultantly, eight Khwarij belonging to Indian-sponsored Fitna-Al-Khwarij were sent to hell due to effective engagement by own troops.
However, during the intense fire exchange, two brave officers including Captain Abuzar Farooq (Age: 23 years, resident of District Gujranwala) and Lieutenant Sheraz Babar (Age: 22 years, resident of District Chakwal), who were leading their troops from the front, fought gallantly and paid the ultimate sacrifice and embraced shahadat along with their four men.
The ISPR said that the relentless counter terrorism campaign under vision “Azm e Istehkam” by security forces of Pakistan will continue at full pace to wipe out the menace of foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country.
