ISLAMABAD: The federal government has extended deployment of paramilitary Rangers in Islamabad, ARY News reported on Saturday.
According to a notification, the deployment of Rangers has been extended up to October 15.
The Chief Commissioner Islamabad has notified that 3,000 Rangers personnel will remain posted in the capital city until 15 October.
In an earlier notification, the Rangers deployment was announced from September 20 to October 5, 2026.
The notification directed Rangers and police to take necessary defensive action in response to attacks by violent and armed groups.
The Ministry of Interior instructed Rangers and police to take all necessary measures to deal with any violent activity or security threat.
Rangers’ personnel to perform duties related to maintaining law and order and providing security assistance.
Section 144 has also been imposed in the federal capital, the district administration told ARY News earlier.
According to the administration, no gathering of any kind is allowed in the city.
A ban on gatherings has been imposed under the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Act 2024, the district administration said.
The administration warned that strict action would be taken against those violating the restrictions according to law.
A violation of the Act carries a punishment of up to three years in prison, according to the administration.
The district administration urged citizens not to become part of any illegal activity.
Citizens were also asked to cooperate with security agencies as responsible citizens.
