How Bayern’s striker surpassed Mbappe and Haaland to be named top no. 9 in the world

Erling Haaland Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe

A new definitive list of the best centre-forwards in the world has been published and has handed Bayern Munich and England international Harry Kane the accolade of best striker on the planet, just ahead of rivals Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid) and Erling Haaland (Manchester City).

After a stunning 2025-26 season where Kane netted 61 goals across all competitions to win his second European Golden Shoe, the 33-year-old still takes it to a new level as a modern No. 9.

Though the raw goal figures have limited the argument, football experts in the end decided that Kane’s incredible tactical intelligence, aerial prowess, superb link-up play and deadly box finishing marks him out as the best of his generation.

Meet the silver-spot holders – they’re Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe, who proved himself among football’s elites with a jaw-dropping 10-goal foray at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, netting the tournament’s leading scorer title for a record third time. Standing behind him on the podium is Manchester City Norwegian goal phenom Erling Haaland, whose ferocious strength and deadly instincts leave him in a close No. 2 closely behind the top two.

With the 2026-27 domestic campaign already in full flow, all three have already started off the mark and got off to a flying start, paving the way for a fierce battle for the world’s top scorer to continue to attract eyeballs all over Europe.

While the stand-out flagship group of leading goal machines is enough to set pulses racing, the worldwide power rankings reveal the cream of the crop of the other elite goalscorers who are knocking it about Europe’s best on the club scene.

Of the first eight players to reach eight goals, all but Havertz have done so with the same club or international team for a number of years, with four (Victor Osimhen, Lautaro Martnez, Julin lvarez, Viktor Gykeres) placing comfortably inside the top 10.

On the other hand, while Tottenham star Harry Kane sits top of the pile at the moment, Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak and a new generation of breakout stars also received runners-up praise for their blistering starts to the new season.
