KUWAIT CITY: Kuwait on Tuesday strongly condemned the Houthi militia’s continued attacks on Makkah and Madinah, describing them as a provocation to Muslim sentiments and a dangerous escalation targeting Islamic holy sites.

According to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry said the attacks had also targeted Riyadh and other Saudi cities, as well as civilian and economic facilities and vessels in the Red Sea and Bab Al-Mandab Strait.

The ministry warned that the attacks posed a threat to regional security and maritime safety, describing them as “hostile and cowardly” acts that violate Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and international law, including international humanitarian law.

Kuwait reaffirmed its support for Yemen’s legitimate government and the country’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

It also praised Saudi Arabia’s sustained efforts since 2014 to support political settlement initiatives and its leadership of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen.

The ministry called on the UN Security Council to implement its relevant resolutions, particularly Resolutions 2216 and 2817.

It also reiterated Kuwait’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for all measures taken to protect its sovereignty and security and ensure the safety of its citizens and residents.

“Saudi Arabia’s security is an integral part of Kuwait’s security and that of the GCC member states,” the ministry said.

Meanwhile, the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen said early Wednesday that it had intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis toward an area north of Riyadh.

The coalition said it was tracking the missile’s launch platform through its intelligence systems over Sanaa and vowed to destroy it.

“We are tracking the launch platform through the coalition’s intelligence system in the skies over Sanaa, and we will destroy it,” coalition spokesperson Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki said.

Earlier, the coalition announced that it had intercepted and destroyed another Houthi ballistic missile launched toward Khamis Mushait.
