KARACHI: The federal government has sent a message to the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) stating that the time has come to impose Governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), ARY News reported.
PPP sources said the government and security institutions shared heightened security concerns in light of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march.
President Asif Ali Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and other senior party leaders have held consultations regarding the matter.
The federal government and relevant authorities informed the PPP that Governor’s rule in KP could be imposed within 24 hours.
Sources revealed that coordinators questioned how long unproductive talks should continue.
Representatives from both the PPP and government noted that PTI decision-makers were failing to reach a conclusive agreement.
However, sources said Bilawal Bhutto has urged till the end to continue dialogue and attempt to persuade the PTI leadership.
Consequently, backdoor contacts have been re-established to find a middle ground, sources added.
Meanwhile, a final message has been delivered to the PTI to accept the government’s terms.
Sources emphasized that the next 24 hours are critical regarding the possible enforcement of an emergency or Governor’s rule in KP.
Earlier, to tackle the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the federal government has completed its homework for the plan ahead, sources in the know of the situation said on Saturday.
A crucial meeting over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be held today with key decisions expected, sourced said amid speculations over an emergency or the governor’s rule is expected in the northwestern province of Pakistan.
According to sources, an important session held last night over the situation in the province.
The huddle chaired by the prime minister, was attended by his senior ministers and high security officials, sources said.
The participants of the session reviewed various reports of the security and the intelligence agencies.
Sources said that the prime minister continuing consultations over various legal and constitutional options in the province.
The prime minister is taking all stakeholders into confidence over the KP situation and his government’s stance over it, sources added.
