What is Section 144

Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), section 144 empowers district administration and provincial governments to pass prohibitory orders in case of pressing nuisance or imminent danger. This provision is often exercised by authorities throughout Pakistan to prevent civil disorder, to avert potential security threats, and to regulate public demonstrations during politically or security-sensitive situations. It is generally enforced to ban rallies, unauthorized assemblies, and the carrying of weapons to secure public safety and property.
