Shai Hope smashes record fourth T20I century in India

Shai Hope 1

Hyderabad – West Indies skipper Shai Hope continued his majestic run on Indian soil by launching into a stunning batting masterclass during the fourth T20I at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Smashing a stunning 102* off 50 balls, Hope broke a bunch of records, overtook a cricketing legend, and helped West Indies level the series with a dominant 24-run victory over India.

Hope finished the West Indies innings in style – smacking back-to-back sixes off the last two balls to reach his hundred and take the visitors’ total to a mighty 247/3.

Breaking West Indies Cricket Records Once a more defensive anchor in the West Indies team, Hope has undergone a stunning switch of roles and redefinition as a reckless power-hitter in recent months.

His onslaught in Hyderabad created the following records for the Caribbean team:

West Indies T20I centuries: Hope’s efforts put him at a leading 3 T20I centuries in West Indies cricket history, ahead of eterans Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis with 2 each.

Enters 2K T20I Runs Club: Hope became just the fourth batter from the Caribbean side to cross 2,000 T20I runs, after Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell, and Brandon King.

Ties Gayle for Most 50+ Scores: With 16 scores of 50 or more in T20Is, Hope tied Chris Gayle’s longstanding West Indies record.

Ranks equal among sole West Indies players to hit 2 tons in a series: Joining handful of cricketers-including Phil Salt, Sanju Samson, and Tilak Varma-Whope scored his second century in the series.
