KARACHI: The father of slain entrepreneur Mir Raza on Monday demanded the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe his son’s murder, ARY News reported.
Speaking to the media outside the court alongside his counsel, advocate Jibran Nasir, Mir Hussain stated that the police had shown negligence in investigating his son’s case, adding that their fears were confirmed by the judicial commission’s findings.
He demanded that Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Faryal Talpur hand over the judicial commission’s report to the family and make it public following the cabinet meeting.
He also called for action against the police officers found negligent by the judicial commission, noting that the family had repeatedly highlighted through the media the police’s poor performance, shortcomings, and deficiencies in the investigation.
Furthermore, he stated that the judicial commission’s proceedings had validated their concerns, reiterating his demand for strict action against the responsible police officers.
Earlier, the Sindh government has received the judicial commission’s report on the Mir Raza Ali case in a sealed envelope, Additional Secretary Home Javed Abro said on Thursday.
Abro said the government would now decide on the next course of action in the case.
He added that the judicial commission’s proceedings had been conducted in open court, while the final report had been handed over to the government in a sealed envelope.
The report’s receipt marks the next stage in the case, with further decisions now resting with the Sindh government.
The judicial commission headed by SHC Justice Omar Sial contains statements from 49 individuals connected to the case. The commission held 15 hearings and recorded two statements via video link.
The judicial commission was constituted on August 24. Mir Raza Ali’s body was found in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area on July 29. An initial post-mortem examination was conducted, followed by a second examination after the body was exhumed.
The report covers findings and evidence relating to the police investigation, the medico-legal section and the Health Department. It also examines institutional shortcomings associated with the case.
The report has been prepared in accordance with the terms of reference set by the Sindh government. The Sindh government will decide whether the judicial commission’s report should be made public.
Meanwhile, Mir Raza Ali’s family is demanding the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate the incident.
