Firdous Shamim Naqvi has announced his resignation as additional secretary-general of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), saying the decision was not prompted by any grievance or disagreement.
Naqvi said he had not yet issued a show-cause notice to PTI senator Mishaal Yousafzai.
The development comes two days after PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan directed Firdous Shamim Naqvi to issue a notice to Mishaal Yousafzai over an alleged violation of party discipline.
PTI Chairman had said that Naqvi, a senior party leader, had been instructed to issue the notice in response to what he described as a breach of party rules.
“I have always supported the right of everyone to express their differences of opinion on the party platform,” Gohar Khan said in his earlier statement.
He added that he did not take such disagreements personally when they were raised through the relevant party forum, but said that action was sometimes necessary.
He accused Mishaal Yousafzai of openly speaking about the party’s senior leadership and violating party discipline.
He said she had previously been warned against such conduct.
