The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Islamabad has registered a case against suspects allegedly involved in defrauding drivers through a fake ride-booking and delivery scheme.
According to the NCCIA, the suspects allegedly posed as senior government officials, using forged identification cards and WhatsApp accounts to gain the trust of drivers.
They reportedly contacted ride-hailing and delivery partners with fake bookings before claiming to face urgent medical or other emergencies.
Drivers were then persuaded to transfer money through mobile banking accounts.
After receiving the payments, the suspects allegedly cancelled the bookings and cut off all contact with the victims.
The agency said further investigation into the case was underway.
The NCCIA has urged citizens, particularly ride-hailing and delivery workers, to verify the identity of customers and avoid transferring money in response to unverified emergency requests.
The agency has also warned drivers to remain alert to suspicious booking requests and attempts to exploit their trust for financial gain.
