Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman has said that giving himself time at the crease is the key to performing well in final matches.
Speaking in Lahore after scoring a century against Sri Lanka in the final, Fakhar said pressure is higher in finals and batters need to adjust their approach according to the match situation.
He said his role is to bat aggressively and make things easier for the batters coming in later.
Fakhar said he changed his batting approach after Pakistan lost two early wickets against Sri Lanka. He decided to spend more time at the crease after the early setbacks.
Praising Saad Baig, Fakhar said the youngster made an excellent start to his innings. His positive and aggressive batting also reduced the pressure on him.
He said positive batting from the other end helps when a player is struggling to score runs.
Fakhar said the confidence shown by the team management and captain in players is very important.
He added that young players displayed a great fighting spirit during the tri-nation series. Their performances in difficult situations also increased the confidence of senior players.
Fakhar said he was pleased that young players played an important role in the team’s victories.
