KARACHI: Various chairmen of municipal towns in the city have filed petition in Sindh High Court (SHC) against government instructions for allocation of funds for pensioners.
The high court has served notices to the Secretary Local Government, Director General Local Government department and other respondents in the case and summoned their reply by December 18.
Petitioners have said that the Local Government Department has directed to the town chairmen to allocate 20 per cent funds for pensioners. “There is no law that keeps it mandatory for allocation of 20% funds for pensioners,” petitioners’ lawyer argued.
“Twenty per cent allocation of funds could negatively affect development works in city towns,” lawyer said.
Petitioners’ lawyer also said that no legal reference given in the official notification and no law suggests it.
