Islamabad,Report by M.Saleem November 2, 2025 —
On the occasion of the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) renewed its commitment to defending press freedom and called on the Government of Pakistan to ensure justice for journalists who have faced violence and persecution.
RIUJ President Tariq Ali Work, General Secretary Asif Bashir Chaudhry, Finance Secretary Nadeem Chaudhry, and members of the executive council jointly issued a statement emphasizing that any attack on a journalist is, in fact, an attack on democracy itself.
> “We salute the soldiers of truth who have raised the flag of justice with the weapon of their pen,” said Tariq Ali Work.
“The sacrifices of those who speak and write the truth will never be forgotten,” added Asif Bashir Chaudhry.
The union expressed deep concern over the alarming number of journalists in Pakistan who have been subjected to threats, violence, enforced disappearances, and killings in the line of duty, while their attackers continue to enjoy impunity.
“Freedom of the press, freedom of expression, and the public’s right to know are the foundations of any democratic society,” the statement said. “No country can allow its media to be silenced or intimidated.”
RIUJ urged the Government of Pakistan to conduct independent, transparent, and swift investigations into all crimes committed against journalists, ensuring that no powerful individual or institution remains above the law.
The organization reaffirmed its commitment to continue its struggle for the protection, economic stability, and freedom of expression of journalists in Pakistan.
RIUJ also called on the United Nations, international journalist associations, and human rights organizations to take concrete steps toward ending impunity for crimes against journalists across the world.
> “November 2 reminds us to renew our resolve — the flag of truth will never bow, and we will always honor the brave journalists who gave their lives for the cause of truth,” the statement concluded.
