KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued a written order on a petition seeking the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate the death of Mir Raza Ali.
According to the written order, the petition has been filed by Mir Raza Ali’s parents and sister. A case involving charges of kidnapping and murder has been registered at Ferozabad Police Station.
The court observed that answers to several legal questions were necessary for effective and proper decision-making in the case.
One of the key questions raised by the court is whether it can directly direct the authorities to constitute a JIT. The court also sought clarity on whether it can supervise or otherwise influence the investigation and the process of submitting the investigation report.
The court further questioned whether any legal basis exists for intervention in the matter in the absence of a notification under the relevant Inquiry Ordinance.

The SHC issued notices to the Advocate General Sindh, Prosecutor General Sindh and Deputy Attorney General, directing them to assist the court on these legal questions.
All parties have been issued notices for the next hearing scheduled for August 31.
The court directed the parties to assist it in addressing the legal questions at the next hearing before proceeding further with the petition.
