PM orders PIMS fire probe as inquiry committee gets strict deadline

Islamabad: A notification about the inquiry committee for the PIMS Hospital fire disaster has been released at the Prime Minister’s directive.

The Ministry of National Health has been instructed to contact the inquiry committee right away and offer complete assistance.

The announcement states that former Federal Secretary Shahid Khan has been named Chairman of the inquiry committee, which also includes the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Islamabad, Major General (Retd) Dr. Khurshid Muhammad Uttra, and Dr. Barrister Nabeel Awan.

Additionally, the notification includes the inquiry committee’s terms of reference, according to which the committee will determine the cause of the fire at PIMS Hospital and the timeline of the incident.

The notification says the committee will analyze the relevant institutions’ immediate and emergency reactions and relief operations; it will also look at the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for newborn transfers, namely the evacuation of high-risk infants.

The aforementioned committee will carry out a thorough examination of PIMS’s fire safety infrastructure and safety rules, as well as assess the culpability and liability of any individuals engaged in the incident.

In order to stop such incidents from happening in the future, the investigative committee will make recommendations about PIMS Hospital’s administrative system to senior officials.

The notification further said that, in the announcement, the Prime Minister will receive an interim report from the inquiry committee within 48 hours that includes urgent recommendations.

Furthermore, within five days, the inquiry committee will provide the prime minister with a thorough report that includes a full investigation and practical recommendations.
