ISLAMABAD: Considering the devastating event at PIMS Hospital, it has been revealed that a month prior, a fire had also started in the nursing hostel.
An inquiry report claimed that a fire started at the PIMS nursing home’s reception at three in the morning on the night of July 6.
Three sofa sets in the lobby area were destroyed by the fire at the PIMS Nursing Hostel, but the 78 female students who were at the hostel at the time were unharmed.
The inquiry committee had recommended departmental action against the hostel warden and security personnel, but the report stated that the lack of electrical and forensic findings made it impossible to ascertain the precise cause of the incident.
Security guards Wajid Mahmood and Shaukat Mahmood were missing from their posts during duty hours, while hostel warden Zainab Sahar has been accused of neglecting to maintain the required records and adherence to SOPs.
It was discovered that men were residing inside the female hostel without permission, and the hostel lacked emergency plans, fire alarms, and CCTV cameras.
After the investigation into the fire, lower-level employees were suspended, but the committee’s recommendations were not carried out.
