ISLAMABAD: Alleged negligence has surfaced against the administration of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) after a report by the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) fire department raised serious questions, ARY News reported.
The MCI fire department reported insufficient safety measures at PIMS, revealing that notices had been issued to the hospital since 2018. The MCI’s Fire Disaster and Management Department (FDMD) had repeatedly warned the major government hospital regarding its lack of safety precautions.
Despite multiple notices, the PIMS administration failed to address these issues or take adequate fire safety measures. The discrepancies identified during the fire audit were communicated to PIMS, along with several warnings.
The audit highlighted that PIMS lacks crucial fire protection and prevention equipment—an issue the hospital administration was informed about time and again.
Furthermore, the MCI recommended deploying trained staff around the clock for fire safety operations. It also advised PIMS to obtain a fire compliance certificate and conduct evacuation training for staff to ensure readiness in the event of an emergency.
