KARACHI, August 28, 2026: A maternity case at a private hospital in Nazimabad has raised important questions among medical experts, with further investigation into the operation and medical records underway, ARY News reported.
Sources said the private hospital had examined the woman in March, after which she was diagnosed with pregnancy-induced hypertension, or high blood pressure during pregnancy.
According to sources, a CTG conducted on August 27 recorded the baby’s heart rate between 100 and 150 beats per minute. The normal fetal heart rate in the mother’s womb is between 120 and 160 beats per minute, while the normal heart rate for adults is around 72 to 80 beats per minute.
Police Surgeon Dr Samia Syed raised questions over how a 38-week pregnancy remained undetected during examinations by seven people.
She questioned how the pregnancy could not be identified despite the woman being examined by three nurses, two doctors, an anaesthetist and a gynaecologist.
Dr Samia also questioned how the baby’s heartbeat was recorded twice on CTG if there was no baby present in the womb.
Medical experts said a 38-week pregnancy is clearly noticeable during an abdominal examination and questioned why another ultrasound was not conducted.
Sources said the woman will undergo an MRI on Monday. The MRI will help determine the depth of the cut made during the operation.
Further examination of the operation and medical records has also been decided in the Nazimabad case.
