PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has allowed alive catch of Sarus cranes in Year 2026 season, provincial wildlife department said in a statement.

The season for alive catching of Sarus cranes will continue from September 1st to October 15, according to the statement.

The authorities have fixed a quota of 100 camps in different districts of the province for catching the bird alive. “Each camp will be permitted a quota of catching maximum 15 Sarus cranes alive” during the season, wildlife department stated.

The department said that the hunters could not catch other birds during the Sarus catching season.

The department, however, has banned Sarus hunting in specific areas.

The wildlife conservationists earlier said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa tops the list where these birds are hunted on a large-scale followed by Baluchistan and Punjab. Sarus Crane has been the world’s tallest flying bird.
