ISLAMABAD: Chairman PTA disclosed in the NA standing committee for interior’s session on Thursday that the NCCIA recovered biometrics of six lac people during its raids.
“We have conducted 125 joint raids along with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), recovered 25,000 Sims and arrested 171 suspects,” Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) informed the NA body in a hearing.
He said the biometric record used to leak from the place where it kept.
“We have to further improve the security features”, Minister of State for Interior remarked.
PTA official said, “We have blocked 1.8 million sims during last two-and-half years”. “The system is being upgraded in collaboration with the Nadra,” he said.
“Cellular companies have also been in the loop, one could buy sixth sim after getting five sims issued,” Chairman PTA said.
Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hassan said that the illegal sims have enhanced terrorism, extortion and other crime incidents. “UK’s sims are here being sold, people advertizing for it”.
State minister for interior said,”now accounts being offered on rent”. “People even knew that the fraud money will be deposited, still the accounts offered,” minister observed.
He said the PTA should itself also take steps for boosting security features.
