Sindh reviews expansion of Peoples Bus service, EV Taxis

KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Friday reviewed the expansion of public transport facilities in the province, including the Peoples Bus Service, double-decker buses, electric vehicle (EV) taxis and Pink Scooties.

The meeting was briefed that the Peoples Bus Service would soon be launched on the Qambar Shahdadkot-Larkana route, with buses already having arrived in Larkana.

Officials also briefed the meeting on arrangements for the arrival and operation of double-decker buses, saying operational matters were being finalised.

Sharjeel Memon said Pink Scooties would be distributed among women in Mirpurkhas on September 5, describing the initiative as a significant step towards empowering women.

He directed the relevant authorities to complete arrangements for launching bus services on new routes within the stipulated timeframe.

The minister also instructed officials to accelerate work on Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects and avoid unnecessary delays in their implementation.

The meeting reviewed progress on various public transport initiatives and discussed measures to improve and expand travel facilities for citizens across Sindh.

Earlier in May, the Government of Sindh launched routes under the People’s Bus Service.

The new routes were launched to provide safe, affordable, and reliable public transportation facilities for the citizens.

The newly introduced routes included between Khairpur Mir’s and Ranipur as well as Khairpur Mir’s and Rohri, aiming to improve regional connectivity and provide greater convenience for daily commuters.

The Sindh government, on this launch expressed commitment  strengthening the public transport network across the province and ensuring comfortable, accessible, and efficient travel facilities for everyone.
