KARACHI: Police on Saturday submitted challan of Gul Plaza in the city court holding the association of the shopping mall as the key culprit in the deadly fire incident.
The government agencies, however, given clean chit in the challan, adding that no negligence found in the emergency response of the KMC, Fire Brigade and the Civil Defence.
The police have included 87 witnesses in in its case challan.
According to challan, questions were raised over the fire safety arrangements in the shopping mall fire probe. “Various evidence collected including DVR footage”.
“No explosive material found, neither traces of combustible liquid in the forensic report,” as per the police challan.
Police have also elaborated alleged negligence on the part of the Gul Plaza and fire safety arrangements in the mall.
The statements with regard to safety arrangements in shops and the premises, have also been annexed with the challan, submitted in the court for legal proceedings and the court order.
In previous hearing of the case, the IO failed to submit the challan in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge and requested more time. IO DSP Aamir had informed the court that the investigation has been completed, but the challan will be submitted following approval from senior officers.
Devastating fire that broke out and engulfed Gul Plaza on the night of January 17, burnt more than 73 people alive to death and continued for more than 32 hours before it was brought under control.
