ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leader Liaquat Baloch has said the second round of talks between the JI delegation and the government committee was held at Punjab House, where the government presented its position on the party’s demands.
Liaquat Baloch said Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah and Ali Pervez Malik presented the government’s position during the talks.
He said the JI presented its six-point demands and held detailed discussions on all six points during the meeting.
Liaquat Baloch said the government committee did not have arguments to reject the JI’s position and added that the government had no answer to their demands even today.
He said the JI demanded a reduction in prices of petroleum products and abolition of the petroleum levy, calling the levy a form of burden on the people.
Liaquat Baloch alleged that the refinery mafia was receiving three times more money, which was increasing the burden on the people of Pakistan.
He said the JI also demanded an end to interest and implementation of the Federal Shariat Court’s ruling.
According to Liaquat Baloch, the prime minister has formed a separate committee on petroleum products, which will hold a meeting on Monday.
He said the JI delegation would also meet the task force on independent power producers (IPPs).
Liaquat Baloch said JI chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman would announce a call for an Islamabad march in his address today.
He said the government delegation told the JI that it also wanted to provide relief to the people.
However, Liaquat Baloch warned that if relief was not provided, the sit-ins would continue.
He said unemployment was increasing while economic growth had come to a halt.
