Oman’s Authority for Quality Assurance of Education has begun external review visits to 71 government and private schools as part of its assessment program for the first semester of the 2026-27 academic year.
The visits are taking place in the governorates of Al Dhahirah, Al Batinah North, Al Buraimi and Dhofar.
The authority said the reviews are designed to assess school performance, identify strengths and areas for improvement, and provide data to help schools develop improvement plans.
Dr Jokha bint Abdullah al Shukaili, chairperson of the Oman Authority for Quality Assurance of Education, said the reviews were an important part of efforts to improve the quality of school education.
She said the assessments would be conducted using established standards and frameworks to provide an objective and comprehensive picture of school performance.
‘The external review process is not limited to assessing performance levels,” she said. “It also aims to support schools in identifying development priorities and strengthening effective educational and administrative practices,’ she said.
The authority said the reviews are also intended to improve learning environments and educational outcomes in line with Oman’s national development priorities.
Dr Thuraya bint Saif al Hosni, director-general of the Centre for School Education Quality Assurance, said field visits would allow review teams to assess schools’ educational and administrative practices directly.
She said the findings would provide schools and relevant authorities with indicators and data to help prepare development plans and strengthen quality and innovation in education.
The authority is coordinating with departments within the Ministry of Education to ensure that findings from the reviews are incorporated into plans aimed at improving learning environments and student outcomes.
Dr Mohammed bin Yahya al Abri, Director of the External Review Operations Support Department, said the Authority had completed preparations for the field visits to the targeted schools during the first semester.
He explained that the reviews would be carried out according to defined standards and procedures to ensure a systematic and objective assessment.
“The external review teams will collect and analyze evidence and assess educational and administrative practices within the schools,” he said.
The process is expected to provide a comprehensive picture of school performance, identify strengths and areas for improvement, and support ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of education in Oman.
